Eelko areas of expertise include (international) mergers and acquisitions, business succession, restructurings and reorganisations, management buyouts, corporate finance, joint ventures and private placements. He represents a large number of national and international (listed) clients in complex issues of corporate law. Eelko furthermore specialises in advising healthcare institutions and franchise organisations. He is (personal) advisor to many directors and major shareholders.
Eelko Smit studied notarial and Dutch law at Leiden University from 1986 to 1992. He has been a civil law notary since 2000. Eelko completed the Grotius specialist course on Corporate Transactions in 2006. He is a member of the Royal Notarial Association, and a supervisory director of the auction house of civil law notaries. He also chairs the Corporate working party of Netwerk Notarissen.
Eelko is a member of de Nieuwe of Literaire Societeit De Witte, VNO-NCW (West), Vastgoedsociëteit Haaglanden, business club Klein Zwitserland and L.S.V. Minerva Alumni.
